Sardine

Napoleon’s favorite

I’m the first fish to ever be canned, under orders from Napoleon Bonaparte to feed his soldiers.

It depends on my age. Younger hake eat medium-sized fish and cephalopods like squids, while adults show cannibalistic behavior.

Mediterranean Sea, North Sea and Eastern Atlantic Ocean between Iceland and Mauritania.

At least 11 cm.

icon_helpHow you can help

If you buy me fresh, you can buy me all year, except in December and January when I reproduce.
If you buy me canned, make sure I am MSC certified.
